Oh, this brought back some wonderful memories. My mom's recipe was different but hers did soak the dates in hot water and then she would use the water and the dates. She made this every Christmas and gave it to the neighbors. Now that I have to be gluten free I don't make it. But now I am thinking I should search for a gluten free version or make up one!
As a lover of all things vintage, I write about our cottage home, inspirational decorating, vintage finds, thrifty buys, and old-time recipes. I have many additional interests such as reading, writing, blogging, arts and crafts, and quilting...I write about these interests as well as about family, friends, shelties, nature and hobbies.
My mom and grandmother used to make this all the time. I've never done it, I should. Sue
